Born 1960 in Oita, Japan. While at Kyoto University, he directed several films on Super 8 and 16mm. After graduating from university he joined the pink eiga production company Shishi Pro. and worked as assistant director to TAKITA Yojiro, KATAOKA Shuji, SATO Hisayasu and others. In 1989 he directed his first feature film Good Luck Japan. Most of the characters in his films are outcasts in today's highly controlled Japanese society.
