Stranger than Jesus
This film is based on a best selling book entitled 『Encounters with Jesus』. The story starts when the director meets a young actor who calls himself Jesus. He is first dumfounded to see the author, but keeps going with the young man seriously acting like Jesus. The film is filled with humor as they quarrel and meet strange people during the journey. It is a new film of Yeo Kyundong who broke the expressional taboo of Korean commercial movie when he debuted with Out to the World(1994). After a long hiatus, he came back with this film to suggest a way to overcome the limitations of low budget film by filling with dialogues, and make us think what satire of secular desire and ethical propositions of film should abide by. Yeo Kyundong stars himself as the lead character and scriptwriter Shim San also appears as an important supporting character. [KIM Youngjin]
