Barbara Rubin and the Exploding NY Underground

Director_ Chuck SMITH

USA, France, Israel 2018 78min DCP color/b&w feature Documentary
Review

The experimental short film Christmas on Earth (1963) shocked New York's film world. Even more surprising is the fact that Barbara Rubin, the director, was a teenager. She was the muse of the 1960s New York's underground cultural icons, Andy Warhol, Allen Ginsberg and recently deceased Jonas Mekas. Chuck Smith rediscovers Barbara Rubin, hidden in the lineage of experimental films, and writes a genealogy of the 1960s New York underground related to her. [LEE Sang-yong]
