On October 27, 1992, the Korean media and the foreign media waited in front of a church in Yeonnam-dong, Seoul, for a live coverage of the “Rapture”—the Second Coming of Jesus, who will bring only the believers back to heaven. As midnight approached, the families of the church members and the police waiting outside the church became extremely anxious over the possibility of a mass suicide. More than 100,000 church members across the world and 200 churches in Korea awaited the Rapture on that day. How did this religion which took off from a book titled [#i_]Getting Close to the End[_i#], came to spread so quickly among the people? [#i_]Rapture: The Day They Vanished[_i#] retraces the apocalypse that never was in 1992, which grew out of the rapidly expanding Christian Church of Korea and the turbulent changes in Korean society.
