The JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Director LEE Joondong) announced that Kwon Haehyo and Park Haseon will be the hosts of the festival’s 22nd opening ceremony, to take place on Thursday, April 29 at 7 pm at the Moak Hall of Sori Arts Center of Jeollabuk-do.
The JEONJU IFF selected Kwon Haehyo, an actor who is a strong supporter and a role model in independent and art cinema, along with Park Haseon, who has been showing off her unrivaled charms on the silver screen and television, as the hosts of the 22nd opening ceremony. Kwon has been communicating with the audience through countless films and dramas including Hong Sangsoo’s The Woman Who Ran (2020) and Zhang Lu’s FUKUOKA (2019). Last year, he was even named as a director of JEONJU IFF’s organizing committee. Actress Park Haseon hosts Park Haseon’s Cinetown, a radio show on films, and she recently returned to the theaters with Go Back (2020). Park also plays the lead character in First Child, which was selected for JEONJU IFF’s Korean Competition section this year.
The opening ceremony of the 22nd JEONJU IFF led by the two hosts will be followed by a congratulatory performance by the Korean traditional music crossover group, Akdangwangchil. Including NOZANOZA, which was used as the soundtrack for the 22nd JEONJU IFF’s trailer directed by Han Byunga, Akdangwangchil will perform a total of three songs.
Following the opening ceremony will be the screening of the opening film of the 22nd JEONJU IFF, Srdan Golubović’s Father. It is Golubović’s fourth film, which won the Sundance Film Festival´s Special Jury Award for Circles (2013). Father is about the journey of a poor and powerless father who tries to regain his family. Through it, the film criticizes the blind spots of a hypocritical society built on an administration that only exists for show. The film has been well received at the world’s leading film festivals such as the Berlin International Film Festival.
Meanwhile, in an effort to avoid the spread of COVID-19 at the opening ceremony of the 22nd JEONJU IFF, the minimum number of individuals will be in attendance for the photo wall event. The attendees will include Kim Seungsoo, festival chairman and Mayor of Jeonju City, the organizing committee, the jury members, and the directors invited to the competition sections. The full opening ceremony will be made available online on JEONJU IFF’s official YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/jiffmedia).
