The 22nd JEONJU International Film Festival (JEONJU IFF, Festival Director Lee Joondong) will set off on April 29, under the slogan "Films Goes On." Before the official kick-off, JEONJU IFF will present special publications highlighting featured themes of this year´s festival. They include J Magazine featuring key content of JEONJU IFF this year, I am Independent ? Beyond Mainstream: 7 Women Film Directors, a compilation of reviews about seven notable female filmmakers featured in the section Special Focus: I am Independent, and What Will Be Of Cinema?, a collection of writings, photos, and visual art by 62 filmmakers discussing the future of cinema in the era of the pandemic.

First, I am Independent ? Beyond Mainstream: 7 Women Film Directors is a compilation of seven reviews by seven women writers from all over the world. Each of the reviews focused on a female independent filmmaker. Contributors to this volume include internationally renowned writers such as Nicole Brenez (professor of Film Studies at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle), Daniela Persico (film critic and programmer of Locarno International Film Festival), Devika Girish (writer, editor, and programmer of New York Film Festival), and Lucia Salas (film critic) as well as three Korean writers Jiha Kim (cinematheque programmer at Asian Culture Center), Lee Ji-hyun (film critic), and Sung Moon (programmer of JEONJU IFF). All reviews are in Korean and English for international readers.

As a part of the "Film Goes On" campaign, JEONJU IFF invited 62 filmmakers, film festival programmers, film critics, and distributors from all over the world to discuss the future of cinema. They expressed what cinema means in the era of the COVID-19 in the forms of writings, drawings, and photos, compiled in a volume entitled What Will Be Of Cinema? (Spanish title: ¿QUE SERA DEL CINE?). This project is a continuation of the publication of What Will Be Of Cinema? from the Mar del Plata International Film Festival in 2020. It invited many writers based in Iberoamerica to contribute their thoughts about the future of cinema. The current volume will be a localized Korean edition, continuing the tradition of putting together thoughts of various people in one place. Filmmakers, film festival programmers, film critics, and distributors contributed to this volume. Participants include 29 contributors based in Korea, such as Bora Kim, Gina Kim, Kim Cho-hee, Min Kyu Dong, Jang Kunjae, Jang Woo-jin (directors), Kim Youngjin, Haery Kim, Darcy Paquet, Lee Sang-yong, Jang Byungwon (film critics), Jamie Shim, Kim Soon-mo (producer), and 33 contributors from all over the world, including Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the Quay Brothers, and Quintin.

Sung Moon, programmer of JEONJU IFF, commented as follows. "Mar del Plata International Film Festival went exclusively online, with a special presentation of a book containing a collective manifesto about the future of films titled "What Will Be Of Cinema? - Postcards for the Future." JEONJU IFF has a long friendship with Mar del Plata IFF and this time, we keep our collaboration by continuing their impressive initiative to bring together the thoughts of various people in the film industry. We have the same concerns, remaining uncertain of the future. However, we still hope to share ideas with those who keep exploring the new cinematographic territory, fearlessly facing the challenges. We will keep waiting for the upcoming scenes of cinema."

Following the publication of Spanish and Korean editions, Senses of Cinema (www.sensesofcinema.com), an online film magazine, will release an English edition of What Will Be Of Cinema? online.
