During the pandemic era, JEONJU IFF was quick to decide on a hybrid festival, held both online and offline, with the slogan “Film Goes On”. In 2021, the festival’s detailed COVID-19 prevention guidelines allowed the offline events to be strong, and the festival was held successfully.

Despite being in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 22nd JEONJU IFF received 398 submissions from 68 countries for the International Competition section. Through this, the festival was able to expand its spectrum not only in genres, but also in diversity in countries and continents. Among those submissions, total of 10 titles were officially invited. Natalia Garayalde’s Splinters won the Grand Prize, Marta Popivoda’s Landscapes of Resistance won the Best Picture Prize, and James Vaughan’s Friends and Strangers received the Special Jury Prize.
