Overview

When Yoonseul´s mother returns home from abroad, she tells Yoonseul about a dream she had when she was pregnant with Yoonseul.

Review

After her daughter Yoonseul’s high-school graduation, the woman suddenly announces to leave the country, saying since she has done her duty to provide 12-year compulsory education, she would go for things she wanted to do. Her daughter wasn’t prepared for the news but willingly accepted it. The real story begins five years after she had left. Hearing the news of her mother’s unexpected death, the girl’s mother comes to Korea for the funeral. Yoonseul recalls the dream that her mother had when she was pregnant. A lion and a woman are staring at each other on an unknown grassland. When the lion attacks her, she fights back and knocks it down with one punch. She was born in the year of the tiger. Her mother says she has done with everything and intends to return home for being with her family. Her daughter insists, “Since when did you care about family? Just go and do whatever you like.” When her mother says a family should live together, the girl makes a statement, “You shouldn’t regret it.” The conception dream reappears later in the film. In the dream, the truth comes to the surface, making a critical turning point. With some interesting twists, the film has slightly changed the normal dynamics of the mother-daughter relationship that we have learned and accepted until now. Its fresh approach makes the film more necessary at this moment. (KIM Mijo)
