Middle school student Najin lives in a motel with his mother. His parents are in the midst of a divorce. Najin tries to buy a school uniform without the help of his parents. While not going as intended, he falls into play with fire.
A mother, Gayoung (Park Heeeun) and her 14-year-old son, Najin (So Woojin), live in an inn. When she smokes a cigarette after returning from her restaurant work, the smoke looks like a sigh deep inside her heart. Like his troubled mother, the boy is boiling with anger. Whenever he gets a chance, he picks up a lighter and tries to burn stuff. He is in a state of flammable substance. He can’t afford to buy summer uniforms and goes to school in winter uniforms. His father (Kang Young-il) wants a divorce to start a new life with his lover. All around the boy, even the room’s wallpaper, is the color red that infuriates him. He looks dangerous without releasing his anger. On a rainy day, he visits his dad to tell his plight but explodes his anger when things don’t go well. All he can do is to throw a stone on his father’s back, but it refreshes his mind. He tells his mom that he won’t play with fire, and his mom promises him to quit smoking after this last one. When he places his hands in the rising smoke, every rage seems to vanish with the smoke through his fingers. (HUH Namwoong)
