War and Peace is a documentary film about the indissoluble bond between war and peace in state relations, in the light of the images that the history of cinema has handed down to us.
The title of this film immediately brings to mind Tolstoy’s novel War and Peace. However, this is strictly a film about film—it is a film that shows wars through records that have been made possible by films (of the past) and technologies (of today). Going from the past to the present and the future, the story begins in 1911 with Italy’s invasion of Libya and travels through numerous repetitions of history, finally ending with humanity’s future that has not yet been written. War and Peace tells us the importance of memories and shows us how film and other types of image media help us to recognize the present without forgetting the past. (Sung MOON)
