Review

A new film by Eugène Green, a director who skillfully tells fantastic stories in a realistic way. Based on a Basque myth about two brothers, this film presents the conflict between good and evil through a modern allegory. Pure and honest Atarrabi, who symbolizes goodness, wishes to venture outside of his world with abundant curiosity; chaotic and mean Mikelatz, who symbolizes evil, listens to hip hop, accepts the world he belongs to and obeys his lord. To which side do we belong? To which side does the society we live in belong? This film is an embodiment of Green’s own thoughts on the film—“Cinema is the place where the materiality of the world and the sacred, the visible and the invisible meet.” (Sung MOON)
