The 11-year-old Yusuf and his best friend Memo are in an authoritative monolithic boarding school in the mountains in Tukey. One winter day, Memo had to take a shower with cold water as a punishment, got sick. Yusuf looks for help from a teacher. Teachers however pay little attention until he seriously deteriorates and tries to move him to a hospital only then. However, cars can’t move due to a snow blizzard, and all the ambulances in the city are out as well. The headmaster and teachers are busy blaming each other, and watching them deeply disappoints Yusuf.
It is the second feature film of the Turkish director Ferit Karahan. The film reveals the authoritarian and violent culture prevalent in Turkish education institutions, criticizing irresponsible adults. In particular, he has shown amazing direction skills controlling many young actors in the harsh shooting condition of a school in the mountains in the freezing cold wintertime. (CHUN Jinsu)
