However, to realize their dream, they have to endure exploitation from adults and overcome fraud. Eventually, the two boys arrive in Tangier, a port city in northern Morocco, only 27 kilometers from Spain. On their way, they meet Illy, a boy who dreams of becoming a football player. The three boys try to go to Spain together, but the journey is filled with dangers. Will they be able to overcome all kinds of hardships and achieve their dreams?
With the excellent performance from the child actors and intense yet thrilling directing, this debut feature by the two directors, each from Morocco and Spain, depicts the reality of more than 2 million refugees’ attempt to move to Europe every year. Especially the back of the two boys walking along the shore with the calm piano score in the background in the last scene leaves a lingering heartache on people’s hearts. (CHUN Jinsu)
