On a very ordinary day, four ordinary people decide to set fire to a cinema packed with people.
In August 1978, four people set fire to the Cinema Rex in Abadan, Iran, killing over 400 people who were watching the film The Deer. This accident triggered Iranian Revolution in 1979, complicating the relationship between revolution and films in Iran. Forty years have passed and in contemporary Iran, four people also decide to burn a movie theater, where the film entitled Careless Crime is being screened. This film, Careless Crime, tells us various stories unfolded surrounding these two incidents. In this movie-in-movie, people watch The Deer, creating an uncanny symmetry. Political history intertwines with film history, making this title a valuable attempt to explore and interweave the relationship between history and films. (MOON Seok)
