The Man with High Hopes
A life story of a man named Roh Hoechan who practiced progressive politics without taking a rest in order to make the same between dream and reality, and chose the exhausting way due to his ground that he couldn’t give up respect and faith toward human dignity.
Roh Hoechan said, “There is a bus number 6411,” in his acceptance speech for the party leader position in Progressive Justice Party launched in 2012. He said cleaning workers in their 50s and 60s who take the 6411 bus early in the morning to work in Gangnam buildings are “invisible people” in our society. He pledged to advance the party for a social class without any presence. The speech “a bus number 6411” shows that Roh Hoechan’s world view can’t be described only with a politician or progressive activist. His life is easily interpreted as a political spectrum because he started with a student movement, was devoted to a labor movement, and then led a progressive party. His excellent sense of humor, ability to embrace people around him, and exceptional insights into artworks can tell how interesting and diverse he is. This is why The Man with High Hopes contains not only his political achievement in chronicle order but also a personal side of him. The film called for longing about human Roh Hoechan and his dream about humane progress. (MOON Seok)
