Overview

Born in 1918 in the ideal village of independence activists in the northern part of Manchuria, pastor Moon Ik-hwan lost his childhood friend Yun Dong-ju under Japanese oppression and Chang Chun-ha during the Yusin regime. Moon survived the mass of modern Korean history, giving hope everywhere suffering.

Review

The life of pastor Moon Ikhwan goes right through painful modern Korean history. His future was decided when he lived in Manchuria with his ancestors who dreamed of the independence of his country as a child. After losing his friends Song Mong-gyu and Yun Dong-ju to Japanese imperialism, he was determined to live for his country on behalf of them. During the Korean War, the life of pastor Moon, who witnessed the division of his country as an interpreter at the UN Command, goes only toward democracy and reunification as we know it. In particular, the film performs magic that restores pastor Moon´s voice and allows us to listen to it in A.I. His letters, statements, and poems, such as a tribute poem Dear Dong-ju, in a sound as vivid as his real voice are deeply moved. In the film, the audience can also see Elder Park Yong-gil, wife of pastor Moon, who passed away in 2011, and Jung Gyeong-mo, his comrade who had visited North Korea together before and passed away this year.
