Screenwriter Kyung-ju and private academy instructor Minjae have been married for 5 years. One day, one plate in a pair goes missing, and Kyung-ju thinks Minjae is to blame. But when Kyung-ju asks if he’s broken the plate and thrown it away, Minjae argues there was only one to start with.
A loud thud disrupts slumber. Be With Me opens with a dull noise that breaks the spell of sleep, and examines crevices in a couple’s relationship as evident in a nerve-wracking racket, befuddled gestures, and subtle comments and actions. One day, writer Kyung-ju discovers that one plate in a pair has gone missing and thinks her husband Minjae is to blame. That tiny seed of suspicion soon sprouts into a motive for destroying the peaceful relationship between the two. As for her reason for writing, Kyung-ju explains to Minjae that it allows her to experience the lives of others. By the same token, the film pries open some hidden cracks in everyday life and prompt the audience to dream of another form of life. [KIM Byeonggyu]
