Sujin and her grandmother are shamans living in the mountains. It’s their important daily routine to offer purified water to gods and tell the fortune for troubled hearts. During high school, Sujin works hard to go to college to escape her fate, but the excitement of busy college life deepens conflict with her grandmother. Eventually, Sujin accepts her fate and becomes a full-time shaman.
Sujin is a shaman living in the mountains of Hongseong with her shaman grandmother. She has been raised by her granny since she was a year old. In 2015, when the filming of this documentary began, Sujin, a high school senior who doesn’t want to become a shaman, prepares for her entrance exam and gets accepted to the University of Foreign Studies. Sujin enjoys her college life so much that she keeps breaking her promises with her grandmother to come to the mountains to do fortune-telling on the weekend, and the relationship between the two begins to grow apart. Along with her conflict with her grandmother, it was also difficult for Sujin to reveal the fact that she is a shaman to her college friends; she stopped taking part in the filming in the end. Three years later, Sujin, who is now a senior student in college, finally decides to accept her fate. She decides to participate in the documentary filming again and chooses the path of a full-time shaman. According to unofficial statistics, there are one million shamans in South Korea. Despite the remarkable advances in science and technology, the desires of those who want to know their future are still great. Even Sujin, who predicted the life of others, was at a loss to figure out how to live her own life. Director Park Hyuckjee made his first film With or Without you in 2015 after making several documentaries for TV, and his fourth feature-length documentary Girl who dreams about time, which took him more than 7 years to complete, was selected for the JEONJU Cinema Project at the JEONJU IFF.
