WHO'S STOPPING US is a call to change our perception of adolescents and youths. Those who were born in the early 21st century and have recently reached adulthood now feel guilty about everything as they see their hopes dashed.
*The film is divided into three parts, with two intermissions between the parts. Entering or leaving are allowed during the two intermissions. Lights will not be turned on.
Director Jonás Trueba has been working with teenagers for over five years and presents their lives and thoughts in a hybrid form of fiction and documentary. Because what truly is meaningful to him seems to be spending time with teenagers, he prepared programs such as workshops and interviews, but he did not try to fit them into a conventional drama about youth. He has just watched them. From their awkward first meeting to the time of COVID-19 when filming was finished, the film features the characters hoping to get a good look on camera while calmly confessing the psychological distance to their weakest side. The characters’ willingness to share their life experiences with others without hesitation in expressing their political views on social systems makes this film unique among today’s youth films.
