In a claustrophobic neighborhood where gossip and violence police people's behavior, the lives of residents intertwine and collide as some try to maintain social norms while others try to break them.
Ali lies to his parents about having a decent job and actually makes a living by taking tourists to illegal clubs and receiving commissions. He is in love with Lana, the daughter of a local hairdresser named Aseel. Then one day, Aseel receives a video of the two of them in a compromising position, and the sender demands hush money. Events take place one after another in this small town in Amman, Jordan. Will Ali and Lana's love come true? Will the blackmailer be caught? The Alleys is a debut feature by Bassel Ghandour, who studied film at USC in the United States. It is a five-part black comedy, mystery thriller, and crime drama. Ghandour is best known for producing and writing the script for Theeb, which was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 2016 Academy Awards. His directorial debut, The Alleys shows his strength as a screenwriter who can unravel a tangled storyline. This is a rare Jordanian film, filled with fun and intrigue. [CHUN Jinsu]
