A freelancer Seyoung heads to a sea village to help his soon-to-be elementary school teacher friend move. During his stay, he comes across Gayoung and Hyena who do nothing but surf. After the odd encounter, Seyoung starts to doubt himself.
All new beginnings are unfamiliar, and all unfamiliar encounters are new. Monkey Shoulder stylishly paints the scenery of the beach on a summer night and its uniquely languid mood. The screen with fascinating textures shows a man's journey through a summer day that feels like a dream or a breeze carrying an unfamiliar scent. The rolling waves carry various meanings for the youths who are faced with the choice between dream and reality, and this film captures that elegant rhythm of the waves. [JIN Myunghyun]
