Concisely arranged elements in the black and white screen, familiar yet sad melodies, excessive zoom-in technique and bird's-eye view, as well as dramatic dialogues and acting are all tied together in Mercy Killing, providing a strange sense of unfamiliarity and immersion at the same time. Moreover, these elements play a role in re-twisting this film’s subverted social value that “choosing to die in comfort” preserves human dignity and is best for people rather than “struggling to survive by any means.” [JUNG Seung-eun]
