With her second feature film, Selenkina has completed a symphony of sorts about Moscow and its sterile city landscape. The story focuses on a third-class drug dealer, Dennis, who sells drugs via the dark web. The film silently criticizes a lazy society where the crimes are converted into virtual games. The cracks between the places that make the city possible and the utterly abandoned spaces reveal the lives of citizens and the daily routines that exist solely on the internet, which has become a prerequisite for life. Notably, there is a one-person protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a picket colored with Ukraine’s flag portrayed in the film. [Sung MOON]
