The Invisible Mountain
A hallucinatory portrait of a man traveling from Finland to Greece in search of the utopian summit described in René Daumal's Mount Analogue (1952)—a fictional mountain floating in the sea.
The idea of a director like Ben Russell, who has such an experimental and convoluted filmography, interpreting surrealistic René Daumal is quite exciting. The Invisible Mountain starts with Mountain Analogue which has become a legend without being completed. In 1973, Alejandro Jodorowsky tried to cinematize it with Holy Mountain (1973) but failed. The film seems to be poetic and musical but places where certain characters and landscapes lead us show scattered adventures and discoveries. It achieves a miraculous moment of sound and music turning into images. [Sung MOON]
