An American Family takes an apocalyptic road trip through the American West. A summer holiday of camping, mini golf, swimming, and baseball, in landscapes inscribed by extermination, genocide, and war. Seize the land by gun. Turn the land into a gun. Point the gun at everybody's head.
A beautiful road movie with families can be a political film. Erin and Travis Wilkerson’s Nuclear Family is a good example. The family visits the barren places in the US, places where the nation’s history and that of the family meet, and the places where the state’s mistakes repeat. The past they confront persists beyond several generations, refuses to be forgotten, and even threatens the future filled with dangers. On beautiful sceneries where the terror made by the prejudices and hate is hidden, Nuclear Family shows the love of the family in the form of resistance. [Sung MOON]
