Review

Seventeen-year-old Sam, who has entered boarding school after her mother's death, is going through puberty. Meanwhile, his father tells Sam to take care of his grandmother who is in a wheelchair with a leg injury. His grandmother, Ruth, who worked as a military photographer during World War II, is now a picky alcoholic, and doesn't get along with anyone. However, while with Ruth, Sam grows up and the two get closer little by little. The film has a typical narrative where a conflicting family eventually realizes their "love for each other" and ends with a happy ending, but 75-year-old Charlotte Rampling's passionate performance as Grandmother Ruth is a major driving force behind this film. Her career and charm accumulated in numerous films, including Swimming Pool (2003), highlight the feature-length debut by former actor and director Matthew J. Saville even more brilliantly.
