Review

She Will is a film worthy of being called a feminist thriller revenge drama. Celebrity actress Veronica goes to a luxurious healing retreat in Scotland after a mastectomy. As a child, she became a star in Navajo Frontier, a film directed by a male director named Hathbourne, but suffered psychological distress from the unfortunate experiences she had at the time. But when Veronica hears that not only Hathbourne had been knighted and that more than 10,000 girls had auditioned for a remake of Navajo Frontier, she confronts her past trauma. Meanwhile, she continues to experience strange things after coming to the healing retreat, which is deeply related to the fact that this place was once the site of a terrible witch-hunt. This film won the Best New Director Award at the Locarno IFF in 2021. [MOON Seok]

Language, psychoanalysis, socio-political constructions of gender and identity are at the heart of her work. Working in various fields such as film, photography, ceramics, and sculpture, she questions narrative structures and storytelling, weaving surreal and fantastical mise-en-scène in a documentarian approach to characters, figures, and people. For her, fiction is a way to approach the truth and the most intimate emotions. Straddling the fine line between fine art and film, her works are dark, surreal with a bit of comedy.
