In Polish film history, Andrzej Żuławski (1940-2016) was underrated compared to Roman Polanski and Andrzej Wajda, but he was a director who left a clear mark in the 1970s and 1980s. In his films, "genres" are blended in a unique way that explores high culture and the most distorted parts of the human mind. On the Silver Globe was a sci-fi film that began filming ambitiously in 1977, but the communist government decided that the film did not represent the value of Polish films, and immediately stopped filming. Ten years later, the director was finally able to finish it, but not the way he wanted it to. It should have been one of the greatest films in cinematic history, but it remains such a cursed film. A documentary called Escape to the Silver Globe completes the whole story. [Sung MOON]
