Review

This movie made Yeon Sang-ho a world-class director and showed what “K-Zombies” could do throughout the world. In addition, this film was his first live action film. It saw huge public success with more than 10 million viewers, as well as gaining critical attention with its implied political message. Without a doubt, it is one of the most controversial movies of the 2010s. An unknown virus is spreading fast and people get on the high-speed train to Busan. In the extremely closed space, the virus continues to spread, making people do whatever they need to do for their survival. Ma Dongseok (a.k.a. Don Lee) earned the nickname “Mayomi” (cute Ma) and Kim Euisung became the epitome of a villain as he played a role depicting the worst part of capitalism. Looking back, it seems like a warning of the COVID-19 pandemic. [MOON Seok]
