Overview

There's something going on behind the white picket fences of Lumberton, North Carolina. And after stumbling upon a severed human ear in a field, mystery-loving college student Jeffrey Beaumont is determined to find out what. Teaming up with the daughter of a local police detective, Jeffrey's investigation leads him into a strange world of sensuality and violence, with the intrigue of the missing ear seemingly stemming from the relationship between a troubled nightclub singer and a sociopathic sadomasochist.

Review

Blue Velvet starts with an overwhelming image. The ordinary days are colored with strong colors to lead to very twisted situations, preparing the viewer to go from the ordinary to the non-ordinary. Soon after, Jeffery finds a human ear in the grass while taking a walk. With the opening sequence and this initial event, Blue Velvet leads us without any hesitance to mysterious and fearful occurrences that we can find, just one step removed from our everyday lives. Through the art of cinema, we can follow along this dark ride and enjoy the film in the process. [YEON Sang-ho]
