Young-sil and Inseek become lovers eight hours after meeting. Inseek is certain that Young-sil is a free spirit. Anxious Inseek makes Young-sil promise that their love will be forever, whatever happens. Young-sil tries to keep the promise, even after their breakup. 8 years later, Young-sil likes Udo, but is unable to do anything.
Archaeologist Young-sil is very self-conscious, probably because she used to transfer schools frequently when she was little. She also tends to empathize too easily with the other person's feelings. Her character is also well reflected in her love life. It became a big problem in her relationship with Inseek, whom she met by chance eight years ago and started dating in eight hours. Inseek, who is easily deceived and obsessed with trivial things, denounces Young-sil as a “free spirit” and dominates their relationship. Just as Young-sil says at the beginning of the film that the essence of archeology is “to study the essence of human beings through relics of the past,” Archaeology of love also delicately explores the nature of relationships through the “relics” of love she left behind.
