LEE Chang-dong: The Truth of the Invisible
Lee Chang-dong: the art of irony

Director_ Alain MAZARS

France, Korea 2022 100min DCP Color feature Documentary
Review

It is a documentary about Lee Chang-dong with its world premiere at the JEONJU IFF. Alain Mazars who directed other documentaries on film directors including Atom Egoyan and Douglas Sirk took the megaphone. This is also the time and physical travel following Lee’s films. Lee explains about his latest long film Burning in Huamdong and Paju and his debut film Green Fish in Ilsan and Youngdeuongpo going backward of the time. It is quite interesting to listen to one of Korea’s representative directors in the filmmaking world. The film even goes to the places where he lived before becoming a director in an attempt to find his cinematic roots. The testimonies from the actors who worked with him also unveil his true colors.
