In 1993, UFOs appeared in every major city in the world. They have remained floating in the sky and silently, motionlessly, and unidentified. 29 years later, there is a rumor that some of us are aliens.
In 1993, UFOs appeared in every major city in the world. Humankind was driven to panic then, but strangely, nothing happened afterward. Jude CHUN’s Unidentified tells a story 29 years after this event. The film delivers the fragmented stories of various characters, so it is difficult to catch the point being made. Scenes reminiscent of music videos or group dance scenes pop out of nowhere, making it difficult to grasp the context. As the story develops, it becomes clear that the film is satirizing present-day society and people by using UFOs and aliens. The joke-like stories recur, targeting the back of the viewer’s mind. Unidentified includes all of Jude CHUN’s strong points, such as the Sci-fi style imagination shown in his short film The Time Agent (2015) and the dynamic composition of pictures in God’s Lament and Band Zagmachi’s music video. Unidentified was selected in the Harbour at the International Film Festival Rotterdam this year and was screened in the Undercurrent at the Singapore International Film Festival last year.
