GODARD CINEMA
Jean-Luc Godard is cinema, its quintessence. Throughout his career, he directed more than 140 films. We hate him as much as we worship him. Where does his aura come from?
*The film will be screened with 1967 - Pasolini in NYC of the Cinephile JEONJU section.
The documentary GODARD CINEMA, by director Cyril LEUTHY, was released during the last edition of the Venice festival, coincidentally, a few days before the death of Jean-Luc Godard (JLG), news that shocked the world and not only the world of cinema. JLG's death seems to represent the end of something. Of a time, of a cinema, of a way of thinking and facing art and politics. But we don't know yet. It is still very early and Godard's cinema, especially his latest films, is still as alive as ever, as if the cinema of his last decades had been designed for the future. LEUTHY's film takes a walk through the life of the author, taking a tour through his films, his political life, his personal relationships, and his work methods, creating a portrait of a man who knew how to be as complex as he was controversial and seductive. Among all Godard's merits, in his life and work, one of the most important was always doing what he wanted. That decision, perhaps, is one of his most important legacies. (Sung MOON)
