The long-awaited feature film debut by Elena LÓPEZ RIERA, after a series of famous short films, focuses its story on a female universe ruled by laws as mythical as they are ancient. The story takes place in a town in southern Spain, where local legend says that women are destined to disappear when the river overflows, claiming the body of a woman recently in love. As the next storm approaches, the women of the family (daughter, mother, and grandmother) must once again face the mandates of the past and their ancestral fears. El Agua, halfway between realism and mysticism, tells us a story of women, of solidarity and resistance, and also the story of first love and the consequences of growing up. (Sung MOON)
