The most recent work of Laura POITRAS, the director of Citizenfour (2014), All the Beauty and the Bloodshed was the winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival 2022. This documentary follows two lines of a story: one is about the life and artworks of Nan Goldin, the internationally renowned photographer, while the other follows the process of her fight against the pharmaceutical company Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family who is behind the company after she dried out from addiction of OxyContin, an opioid painkiller. The film displays the process of her success as an artist, overcoming her tragic family life and combining this with the revolutionary time of the 1960s and ‘70s with her signature slide shows. All the Beauty and the Bloodshed also reveals that her fierce struggle during the AIDS era is part of the essence of her art.
