There is a story at the beginning of Notes for a Film. At the end of the 19th century, Belgian engineer Gustave Verniory landed in southern Chile to expand the railway line. While working on the construction project, he had to resolve a conflict between the government and the Mapuche people, who owned the land that the new railroad would pass through. However, as the title suggests, this starting point serves as a short note for the director to help his talent flourish. Director Ignacio AGÜERO went on to create a hybrid film somewhere between history and essay, an attempt to diversif cinematic forms going back and forth between fiction and reality. With this film, he proves that cinema can re-examine the past without prejudices. (Sung MOON)
