Stars at Noon
A young American journalist stranded in present-day Nicaragua falls for an enigmatic Englishman (Joe Alwyn) who seems like her best chance of escape. She soon realizes, though, that he may be in even greater danger than she is.
A young American journalist is stranded in a country under the power of a military regime, where politics only seems to work conspiratorially and from the shadows. The appearance of an English traveler makes her think of a possible escape route, but it will only be one more step towards a world ruled by passion, violence, and lies. Trish, played by Margaret Qualley, joins a long list of female characters in the filmography of French director Claire DENIS, who struggle in worlds as alien as they are violent. A universe where the political ups and downs of a country adopt sinister forms of manipulation and in which solidarity seems to be just one more form of deception. (Sung MOON)
