Review

The love story of a wealthy middle-aged man and a poor young woman in the film is similar to my hilarious love story. The closer the man gets to the woman he falls in love with, the further he pushes her away. The naïve or stupid man is caught in a woman's two-faced deception, and his love for her turns into feelings of betrayal, jealousy, and anger. The 'innocent' man in this film seems to be an archetype of masculine love and an old story. Perhaps it is because nowadays, deception of various kinds is used increasingly by men like peacocks. BUÑUEL's unique artistic vision of moving between tragedy and comedy, reality and unreality, while withholding judgment, is appealing and overcomes the hurdles of the film's antiquated context of male-female relationships. Watching this film, I felt a strange sense of freshness as it depicted my inability to navigate between principles and desires. (Kelvin Kyung Kun PARK)
