Oksoonlog
My grandmother has dementia! And I live with my grandmother. Conflicts between the younger brother and the grandmother begin due to the grandmother's repeated behavior. Among the disappearing memories, what kind of memories should we live with?
Directed by KIM Nayeon and LEE Dong-han, Oksoonlog is a documentary that portrays the heartwarming story of a grandmother’s battle with dementia with love and pity. The film chronicles the journey of director KIM’s grandmother, Oksoon, who is in her mid-80s and struggling with memory loss. Despite it being May, she mistakes it for the winter solstice and forgets that her grandson is no longer in the military, even though she sees him daily at home. She makes an excess of rice even when there are leftovers and drinks over ten cartons of soy milk daily. As her symptoms worsen, she cannot remember the front door password, making her grandchildren more concerned. This is a poignant account of a grandmother’s gradual memory loss and a cherished memento for her grandchildren who try to capture enduring memories with their grandmother who raised them. It would be great to see Oksoon join her grandchildren in Jeonju in May to watch the documentary together. (MOON Seok)
