Overview

Korean legendary band JAURIM is celebrating its 25th debut anniversary with a concert and a special album featuring a chorus from 117 fans. The film captures JAURIM’s philosophy of music, personal episodes, moments of crisis, and the heartfelt message about “YOUTH” which is the central theme of their music.

Review

The documentary JAURIM, The Wonderland is like a complete gift set for fans of the Korean band, Jaurim. The film offers a comprehensive look at Jaurim’s journey since its formation in 1997, along with the preparations for a remake album and concert to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2022. It highlights how the band comforted people with its unique message during the IMF financial crisis that hit South Korea right after its formation. Co-director KIM Jihwan and HEO Min blend footage from the 25th-anniversary concert with past TV appearances to showcase the band’s performances in various settings. The film also features interviews with celebrities such as Bae Chulsoo, Im Jinmo, Bae Soontak, Rooftop Moonlight, Wonstein , and Seo Hyunjin, as well as a fan club known as Jamong. What sets this documentary apart is its revelation of the true intentions of three members— Kim Yuna, Lee Sunkyu, and Kim Jinman. Kim Yuna’s confession, “I am still confused because I don’t know where to go, and my heart is filled with a storm,” adds to the anticipation for the band’s future activities. (MOON Seok)
