Overview

Medusa Deluxe is a murder mystery set in a competitive hairdressing competition. Extravagance and excess collide, as the death of one of their own sows seeds of division in a community whose passion for hair verges on obsession.

Review

While preparing for an annual hairdressing competition that means a lot to those in the profession, Moska, a hairdresser, was found dead at the event venue. With the rumor that the murderer took her scalp, the atmosphere becomes even more chaotic. While hairdressers and models talk about disgusting and dirty rumors and spooky stories and even create conspiracy theories about the event, cameras assiduously move around to follow them. In the process, the unseen relationships between people and the whole story are gradually brought to light. British director Thomas HARDIMAN’s debut film, Medusa Deluxe doesn’t have such an elaborate story, but it fascinates viewers with ornate long-take shots and magnificent hairstyles. It seems to be an extension of a real hair salon, where talking behind people’s backs is rife. (MOON Seok)
