Paradise
As times changed, most old movie theaters in Jogno closed one by one. Few survived cheap theaters transformed into gathering places for gays seeking their own cultural space on the fringes of society. Gay bars also opened all over the area, making Jongno a paradise for gay men.
Paradise recounts a story about Bada Cinema in Jongno, a cruising spot for many gay people until recently. It opens with the kind storyteller's guidance. Interviews of gay people who enjoyed the culture of Bada Cinema revive visual images of the queer culture at that time. The cinema permanently closed in 2010, but the interviewees recall the memories of love still haunt there. It is a historic landmark; for some people, it must have been a paradise. (BYUN Gyuri)
