While a little boy sits in front of a fan cooling down from the heat, his mother, Seori, feels the late-night cold. When the water stops running, she takes her son and goes to a middle-aged woman who lives nearby. The Cold Breath, set in the countryside, depicts strange seasons of extreme cold and extreme heat like the two faces of a desert. By imprinting the contrast between pooled and flowing water and the difference between temperature and humidity, the film helps viewers understand the uncomfortable feelings between the individuals which have accumulated over time. It leaves a clear impression of a woman who yearns for warmth and hygiene, surviving through climates far from perfection. (LEE Bora)
