A Journey in Spring simply depicts the daily life of a shabby elderly couple until the middle of the movie. The husband who injured his leg in an accident is a foolish old man who takes the lead alone even though his wife struggles to carry recyclables to support him. However, this does not mean he truly disrespected her. He may seem like a grumpy old man, but he quietly cares for her. The story unfolds slowly like the older people walk up and down a town in the hills, but the flow of the story changes when the wife suddenly passes away. Without her, his life is thrown out of balance and into chaos. The cinematography that keeps a certain distance from the characters, the sound that maximizes natural sound, and the restrained and compacted depiction are all devices utilized in A Journey in Spring to highlight the world of elderly love. The analog sensibility generated by the 16mm film also arouses this mood. The two Taiwanese directors won the Best Director Award at the San Sebastián International Film Festival with this film. The actor Yang Kuei-mei, who showed impressive performance in Vive L'Amour (1994), also received the Best Performance Award at the Singapore International Film Festival for her role as the wife.
