In the 1990s, music video was an arena where visual imagination exploded. Among the talents who burst onto the scene and stood out was Michel Gondry. Now probably better known for directing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) and The Science of Sleep (2005), he started filmmaking by creating music videos for the rock band in which he played. Working with big-name singers such as Björk, Daft Punk, Kylie Minogue, and Paul McCartney, Gondry opened the door for them to access an even more creative and unique world with his magic touch. This documentary features his early animation-style projects, cases showing how he creatively bypassed technological limitations, and his directorial works. Spike Jonze, whose career path frequently intersects with Gondry's, stars in the film and goes through and commemorates the era. This documentary traces Gondry's work so far to deliver simple yet brilliant words of wisdom: if you want to come up with something that has never existed, you are the one who has to make every piece of it.
