Chatila and Reda are saving to pay for fake passports to get out of Athens. Review

Palestinian refugee Chatila manages to reach Greece, leaving behind his wife and son in Lebanon. His goal is to save enough money to reunited with them in Germany—but crime is his only option. With his cousin Reda, also a refugee, he resorts to pickpocketing and petty theft. But Reda, a drug addict, squanders their savings. Cornered and desperate, Chatila hatches a desperate plan that involves betrayal and violence against fellow refugees. Will he succeed? Director Mahdi Fleifel, himself born in a refugee camp in Lebanon, depicts through Chatila's extreme choices how desperation can drive a man to ruin step by step. A masterfully written debut feature, the film also boasts outstanding performances. (CHUN Jinsu)
