In her debut feature, Sarah Friedland offers a delicate, authentic portrait of a stage in life rarely well-depicted: old age. The protagonist, a woman in her 80s whose mind drifts between past and present, must transition to life in a nursing home. There, she confronts the challenge of navigating an entirely unfamiliar set of rules, relationships, and routines—completely different from the life she had known until then. According to the director, “Familiar Touch experiments with the markers of the coming-of-age genre to consider how we are all always coming of age.” (Sung MOON)
