I'd like that corner seat over there is a compilation of music videos from Hip Hop Retreat, the new album from the leading Korean saxophone player, Kim Oki. All 20 songs from the album were captured. At a Chinese restaurant and tucked away in a corner, different protagonists put on different performances in front of a single backdrop. This music video was directed by Park Syeyoung, who made The Fifth Thoracic Vertebra (2022) and also Twilight, which won the Korean Competition for Shorts' Special Jury Prize at last year's JEONJU International Film Festival. The relationship between the two artists started five years ago when Park Syeyoung directed Kim Oki's Cotard's Syndrome music video and Kim Oki handled the music for Park Syeyoung's short Godspeed (2020). The 20 music videos are said to have been performed by different actors with different setups, but they are not explicit. This is the case even for the songs with lyrics such as "Lucky" featuring Wonstein (starring Wonstein), "You" featuring Kim Ildu, and "Poor People" featuring Tak Kyungju. Just like how it is difficult to explain music with logic, their music video does not have to follow the logic of music either. If one can accept the loose connection between Kim Oki's music and Park Syeyoung's music video, it is a piece that will entertain both the ears and the eyes. Aside from Wonstein, actors like Ok Jayeon, Kim Huigyu, and Jang Yohoon appear. (MOON Seok)
