Two stories. Two tales. In 'With a little bit… of luck," Jorge and Maria face the challenges of being a new couple as they dream of owning a home and starting a family. In "A new life… by chance," Magrão and Crioulo find themselves back where they began—in prison. Yet, they continue to dream of a new life.

It was the year 1970: Brazil was experiencing the paradox of the Economic Miracle alongside the intensification of repression under the Military Dictatorship that began in 1964. In this context of cunning contradictions, living in the southern part of a country of continental proportions—distant from the effervescence of innovative movements like Glauber Rocha's Cinema Novo—, Odilon Lopez creates two stories that introduce an inescapable nightmare within an apparent dream. The gas bombs suggest that an ideal future may not be possible, while hippie perversity exposes the violence of racism in a deeply unequal society. One of Brazil's first Black directors, Lopez also presents modern approaches in this film made with his own resources, experimenting with atypical framing and narrative deviations in a genre often overlooked when considering political cinema: comedy.
